March 11, 2015

Trinket finally seems to be completely recovered from his upper respiratory infection!  He is gaining weight and now has the energy he needs each day to run and play with his foster brother.  The burned skin along his back continues to drop off, still leaving large areas of raw skin, but it is treated daily with medicine to treat the intense itch and prevent infection. He still wears a sweater 24/7 to prevent himself tearing open this tender new skin that is growing. Despite what he's gone through and the discomfort and pain he is still in daily, Trinket has the sweetest personality.  He loves scratches and cuddles!

Day 25, February 20, 2015

Here are a couple of videos of Trinket!  His burn still looks scary but really it looks so much better than it did even a week ago.  He is getting stronger every day!

Day 18 - February 13, 2015

We are battling an infection of the skin on his back.  : (  He is running a bit of a fever also so his energy level is low but he is such a sweet-natured kitten!  He has played a little but mostly wants to take it easy and snuggle.  His doctor feels certain that with plenty of good food, love and medicine he will recover but he still has several months of healing and recovery.  But with challenges also come blessings!  He is able to eat out of a regular bowl now, the burned skin is falling away and relaxing nicely!  Please consider donating to his ongoing medical bills - pflu.org

Day 12, February 7, 2015

Two steps forward, one step back.  His appetite was off yesterday and he slept most of the day.  He returned to the vet this morning.  He is running a fever and so he received another dose of a long acting antibiotic and burn treatment.  He cuddled all evening.

Day 7 - February 2, 2015

As predicted, the skin has begun to crack, leaving raw flesh exposed.  But the humidity and antibiotics are working!!  His congestion is much improved.  His back itches terribly and he has been scratching it incessantly.

The skin has relaxed a bit on his neck and his eyes look much more comfortable today!

Day 4 - January 30, 2015

Trinket visited the vet again today.  He received a treatment of entederm on his neck and back.  Dr. Isom said that the burned skin will begin to crack and separate, leaving an open wound.  We will need to be careful that this open flesh does not get infected.

We discovered that he loves tummy scratches.  Here he is enjoying some snuggle time with his foster mommy!

Day 3 - January 29, 2015

We discovered that Trinket cannot put his head down to his bowl to eat. The skin has contracted too much.  We have elevated his bowl to a comfortable level for him!  He is also having trouble eating solids so for now he is on a semi liquid diet of a/d canned food and KMR kitten milk.  He spends all of his time under a humidifier to help with his upper respiratory infection.
